Fieldway Commence Fire Safety Project for Wigan Council at Scholes Village

Fieldway have recently embarked on a fire safety and electrical upgrade programme for Wigan Council. The contract encompasses a multi-disciplinary project across seven high-rise blocks in Scholes Village, working in over 700 flats. Scheduled for completion within a year, the endeavour aims to enhance fire safety measures in these residential spaces.

The comprehensive scope of works includes the installation of fire alarms, upgrades to stairwell AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) systems, lighting and electrical improvements, as well as domestic water services.

The tender for the project was released in October 2022. Through a close review of the specification and a comprehensive site survey we submitted our competitive proposal. This was followed by a thorough interview process which resulted in award of the contract in March 2023. After contract award, we signed a pre-construction agreement with Wigan Council ahead of the design phase.

Collaborating closely with our design consultant, NECO, we then transitioned the project from RIBA Stage 3 to Stage 4 to produce final construction information that met all building standards and regulations. On confirmation of the final design in October 2023, we then commenced mobilisation and site set up.

The project has started smoothly, commencing domestic fire alarm installations at Brook House. Early assessments have revealed an average customer satisfaction rating of 9.9 out of 10, reflecting Fieldway’s dedication to quality and customer-centric service. This has been made possible through dedicated site management and resident liaison resources to maximise access and achieve high levels of customer care.

Moreover, Fieldway are actively engaging with Wigan Council to extend support to the local community through various social value initiatives. Plans include fostering local employment opportunities, organising mental health sessions, and making diverse contributions to enrich the community.

Fieldway looks forward to a continued fruitful partnership with Wigan Council. Stay tuned for further developments as this endeavour continues to progress, promising heightened safety standards and community enrichment within Scholes Village.
