21 Mar Fire Safety Project Commences at Queens Park High School
Fieldway are excited to share that works are progressing well for our contract with Queen’s Park High School, a secondary school based in Chester.
We were awarded this contract to act as the principal contractors in the installation and upgrade of new fire alarm systems, emergency lighting and various passive fire protection works throughout the school.
We have been collaborating on this project with consultant E3 Cube Limited, working closely with them to ensure adherence to the design and Fire Safety NBS Specification.
Electrical Works
Staff and caretakers at Queens Park have supported us in progressing as far as we have in such a short amount of time – with over 50% of the lighting upgrade completed in under one month. The new NVC LED lighting will provide improved quality, increased efficiencies and long-term cost savings to the school.
We have commenced work on the fire alarm installation, providing suitable coverage across the school to ensure fire is detected and occupants are alerted in these situations.
Passive Fire Protection
We are also implementing passive fire protection measures through compartmentation works. The number of people occupying the school at any time can easily reach the hundreds, so limiting the spread of a fire to ensure safety of all building users is vital. All passive fire work will be completed in line with FIRAS standards, backed up by test evidence to ensure solutions provide the level of protection required.
Working in a Live Environment
Carrying out works and upgrades in a school environment, during term times, poses unique challenges that Fieldway have prepared for and successfully managed.
We tailor our presence to coincide with the end of the school day and after hours as much as we are able, to reduce any disruption our works may cause to the students and staff occupying the building. To accommodate the after-school traffic rush we have strictly enforced rules about parking, and arrival and departure times that all our onsite staff adhere to.
The safety, and safeguarding, of the students remains a top priority in our day-to-day delivery of the contract. All onsite employees have participated in toolbox talks regarding appropriate dress and site behaviour while working at the school.
We have also taken on the responsibility of locking up the site, and conducting general cleaning at the end of each work day to ensure that the children are able to learn in a tidy, and safe environment.
Next Steps
Fieldway have enjoyed working with Queen’s Park throughout this project, and are looking forward to continuing our relationship over the next few months as the contract progresses, delivering them into a future of safe and reliable fire protection.
