Client : Salford City Council
Sector : Social Housing
Service : Active Fire
Location : Manchester
Scope of Works : As part of our contract with Salford City Council, Fieldway have successfully undertaken a fire alarm upgrade project at Barton Moss Secure Care Centre. The 20 bed property provides a secure housing facility for children under the care of the Youth Custody Service – and therefore, requires a tailored approach to project delivery that ensures the safety of the inhabitants and our own workforce.
We installed Advanced fire alarm panels with Hockiki detectors, call points and sounders fitted into communal areas. Wagner Aspirating detectors were wired into new systems and mounted in ducts within sleeping areas, preventing access or interference to its functionality from Barton Moss inhabitants.
We undertook site visits and generated thorough surveys to develop an accurate programme of works that aligned with Barton Moss’ specifications, design drawings, and fire safety requirements.
We installed systems using an area by area approach, completing each section of the property before beginning works in another location – e.g. installations in the lobby area before the sleeping areas.
Our Health and Safety Manager developed a tailored Health and Safety Plan for Barton Moss – including site specific instructions, safeguarding flags, and risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) tailored to reflect unique risks posed by the property type and the children inhabiting it. Operatives underwent updated DBS checks and refresher CPD Level 1 Safeguarding training to ensure complete preparation in all aspects of delivery.
