Countess of Chester Hospital

Client : Countess of Chester Hospital

Sector : Healthcare

Service : Active Fire

Location: Chester

Scope of Works : In October 2024, Fieldway began delivering the contract to test and replace fire and security alarm systems within the Countess of Chester Hospital building, owned and operated by the NHS Property Services Limited. The hospital maintains its regular operations, and is occupied by a number of NHS staff, patients, and visitors each day, at all hours – therefore, requiring a tailored approach to delivery that considers all risks and challenges posed by a live healthcare environment.

Tailored Approach to Delivery

We phase our installations using a ward by ward approach – this limits the number of active work areas throughout the hospital at any one time, reducing disruption and enabling hospital staff and patients to continue on as normal. Temporary cordons and clear signage segregate designated spaces, preventing entry by unauthorised individuals and allowing works to continue uninterrupted. Areas of high foot traffic – corridors, near lifts, stairways – are accessible at all times, with necessary works being delivered in off-peak hours to limit interaction with hospital occupants.

Considerations for Healthcare Environment

Our Health and Safety Manager maintains regular involvement in the review and adjustment of best practice, risk assessments and method statements, and mitigation strategies to ensure our delivery prioritises the safety of resource and occupants.

Our Site Manager liaises with Ward Managers and Charge Nurses before progressing installation into other areas of the hospital – to ascertain whether patients can or should be temporarily relocated to preserve their rest and comfort.

Masks are mandatory in various locations throughout the hospital, preventing spread of illness to patients or staff, who may be vulnerable or susceptible to sickness.
