Fieldway have carried out passive fire improvement works within communal areas and residential flats across the Merseyside region for Riverside since 2018. Works include fire door upgrades, compartmentation works and intumescent seal installations.

During the installation of active fire alarm systems across numerous HMOs we informed Riverside of FRA breaches within compartmentation that our operatives found on site.  This resulted in a variation to our contract allowing for us to survey, specify and complete the passive works.

We complete thorough surveys within roof voids, communal areas, basements and individual flats to determine optimum cable routes and compartment opportunities. This methodological approach to planning works ensures no areas are missed and that we reduce the risk of fire with the installation of; fire curtains, intumescent batts, fire doors and fire door maintenance.

We identified several basement areas overcrowded with unwanted resident belongings not included within the FRA increasing risk of fire despite new alarm and passive measures being completed. All items were removed and disposed of with temporary locks introduced to areas preventing further build up.

Wherever possible our works coordinators plan works to allow the active and passive teams to work collaboratively, for example cable seals when installing a new fire alarm or our joiners following and sealing cables in compartments.  This keeps the number of visits and disturbance at site to a minimum.
