In October 2018, Fieldway were awarded a contract to install new fire alarm systems at 21 sheltered accommodation schemes for Together Housing. All sites were to receive a new panel with fire alarm detectors in the flats.
Together housing is one of the largest housing associations in the North of England, managing over 36,000 homes across Yorkshire and Lancashire. They also provide sheltered accommodation and extra care schemes.
We treated each site as an individual project, carrying out 21 individual project mobilisations. Each project had its own project plan, was resourced individually and planned in partnership with Together Housing.
All sites were to receive new open protocol Protec Algo-Tec 6100 or 6500 panels and detectors in the communal areas. Mains powered AICO fire alarm detectors and smoke sensors were installed in the individual flats. We installed a range of optical heat and smoke detectors complete with sounders and manual call points. The systems were designed to BS5839-6: 2013 and BAFE SP203-1 standards.
To minimise system downtime, we installed the fire panels and wiring alongside the old systems before decommissioning and removing the old system to enable a seamless switchover. Once the fire panel and wiring were installed to the whole block or scheme, we moved floor by floor installing devices to the main system in the hall of each dwelling. Whilst in the residence we installed the individual AICO standalone fire alarms, minimising disruption to the residents. We concluded by removing the old device from the decommissioned system in the hall.
All 21 sites were completed on time and within budget.
