Wigan Council

Client : Wigan Council

Sector : Social Housing

Service : Multi-Discipline

Location : Wigan

We have been awarded a contract by Wigan Council to deliver a multi-disciplined project involving fire safety and electrical upgrades at more than 700 flats in seven high-rise blocks across the Scholes Village area.

The comprehensive scope of works includes the installation of fire alarms, upgrades to stairwell AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) Systems, emergency lighting and electrical improvements, as well as domestic water service upgrades.

Customer Care

As Principal Contractor we have taken the lead on the project and through our relationship with the tenants, we have established a safe, high-quality, and swift programme of works that ensures the project is completed on time and within budget.

When working at occupied properties, our staff remain respectful and discrete at all times. Works are phased across the high-rise blocks to minimise disruption to the tenants. Emergency lighting and stairwell AOVs in communal areas were completed first to ensure tenants could travel through the building with limited impediments.

Resource

As this is a large, multi-disciplined contract implemented across multiple sites, Fieldway have maintained a constant presence within Scholes Village since project start. Our dedicated Project Manager, Site Manager, and Tenant Liaison Officer occupy the on-site cabins acting as a continuously available presence should the tenants or community have any queries about the project’s progress.

Social Value

We have worked closely with Wigan Council throughout the project to identify key social value needs within the local community.

We have dedicated our own time to support the locals by:

  • Painting fences with at-risk children
  • Building hedgehog boxed with Wigan Scouts
  • Distributing 10 slow cookers, and hosted cooking lessons with recommended recipes
  • Clothing collections of coats, hats, gloves and scarves to ward off the winter weather
